Walter Newman is a retired art conservator living in the Upper Valley of Vermont, now painting full-time.

He is known for his vibrant, often whimsical, and sometimes unsettling oil paintings. Most are still lifes of unexpected objects in surprising combinations.

They reflect personal experiences and incorporate travel souvenirs, animal companions, housewares, patterns, and dinosaurs, but at their core they are about color relationships and composition.

Walter has exhibited paintings as a member of the AVA Gallery and Art Center community in Lebanon, NH, and was a featured artist at Art at the Kent in Calais, Vermont, in 2019.

Newman's newest paintings will be on display at the Tunbridge General Store Gallery in Tunbridge Vermont, from Sept. 10th until Nov. 24th. There will be an opening reception on Sunday Sept. 13th from 2-4pm.
